Karan Raghavendra (WTN: 12.7) grew up watching Michigan football games and dreaming of playing sports in the Big Ten Conference. Once he started seeing West Coast schools like USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington join the Big Ten, it only made the opportunity even more enticing.

Five-Star Senior Karan Raghavendra Signed with Indiana

The five-star senior from Dublin, California took all five of his official visits to Big Ten schools. In the end, he signed to play for Indiana University.

"The culture of the Big Ten schools and the atmosphere of the crowds they get for football games is amazing. I wanted to go to a college like that even if it weren't for tennis,” Raghavendra said. “To have the best of both worlds of having great tennis and academics is great."

Raghavendra’s interest in the Hoosiers was sparked when one of his best friends got into the Indiana Kelley School of Business. His friend encouraged him to apply, and Raghavendra started doing some more research.

A few weeks later, another friend, Matteo Antonescu, committed to play for the Hoosiers.

"He told me to shoot the coach an email,” Raghavendra said. “I emailed him a few weeks before Kalamazoo to let him know I would be there and would love to have them watch me play. That is kind of really how it all started."
