Tournament Preview
Defending champion Galfi, Ruud Lead Eddie Herr ITF Fields
Share:

Since winning last year's Eddie Herr title as a 16-year-old, Dalma Galfi of Hungary has reached the semifinals of the Australian Open Junior Championships, won the Wimbledon girls doubles title, the US Open girls championship and two ITF Women's Circuit titles in Australia. All that success has given her a shot at ending 2015 as the ITF Junior World Champion, so she will return to defend her title next week in Bradenton, Florida.

Galfi, currently No. 2 in the ITF rankings, will have stiff competition in her quest to become the Grade 1 tournament's first back-to-back girls champion, with two other 2015 junior slam winners also in the field.

Australian Open champion Tereza Mihalikova of Slovakia, 17, and Wimbledon champion Sofya Zhuk of Russia, who will turn 16 during the tournament, are among the six Top 10 girls competing on the Har-Tru courts of the IMG Academy. Sonya Kenin (3) and Usue Arconada (7) from the United States have both won Grade A titles on clay in the last 12 months, and Charlotte Robillard-Millette (8) of Canada has posted some of her best results on the surface, winning a Grade 1 in France in April and reaching the final of the Grade A Italian Open the following month.

Robillard-Millette's Junior Fed Cup teammate Bianca Andreescu, 15, also has done well on clay. The Canadians finished third at the Junior Fed Cup last month, with Andreescu, the 2014 Metropolia Orange Bowl 16s champion, winning all five of her singles matches in Madrid. Robillard-Millette, 16, won the Metropolia Orange Bowl 16s title in 2013.

Kenin and Arconada have the Top 10 ITF rankings among US girls, but at least 13 more will be aiming for the title.
