Nevolo and Ahn Take Gold at USTA 18s Spring Nationals

For 18-year-old Dennis Nevolo, the third time in Mobile was the charm, while for 15-year-old Kristie Ahn, her first trip to the Spring 18s resulted in a national championship.

The second-seeded Nevolo, a 6-4, 6-3 winner over top seed Bradley Klahn in last week's USTA Spring 18s Championship boys' final, lost in the first round when he first took to the hard courts of the Mobile Tennis Center in 2006. Last year, he returned home to Gurnee, Ill., with a gold ball in doubles (with Klahn) and a silver ball in singles.

When Ahn arrived in Mobile for the first time, the sixth seed wasn't even the top-ranked player from her home state of New Jersey - that honor belonged to top seed Christina McHale - but in the final, Ahn battled past No. 2 seed and 2007 finalist Lauren Embree 6-4, 6-3 to claim the singles title at the National Level 1 event.
