His phone was buzzing with friends and family members sending him photos from the Tennis Channel broadcast.
The 17-year-old Ton chaired the Girls 16 singles final on Saturday afternoon at the USTA National Hardcourt Championships at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego.
Nearly the same age as the players competing, Ton is believed to be the youngest official to chair a final at a USTA junior national event.
“This was really special to me,” said Ton, a Fountain Valley, Calif., native. “My parents watched me from the TV for the first time. They were pretty excited about it and told me I did a good job. It meant a lot to me.”
