Maxwell Giddens sensed the timing was right. There was a brief moment of silence in the room, and he decided to take advantage.
Giddens and his parents were visiting Auburn over the weekend. After watching a baseball game with the tennis coaches on Saturday, they all gathered to talk about the potential of Giddens joining the program.

The blue chip junior from Birmingham, Alabama had Auburn near the top of his list from the start of the recruiting process. His mother and sisters were graduates, and he felt at home on the campus.
But Giddens didn’t expect to announce he was verbally committing to the Tigers on Saturday until he was in the moment.
“Everybody was very shocked. They didn’t know I was going to do it right then. My dad and mom got emotional and the head coach was thrilled,” Giddens said. “The thought of representing Auburn University and representing my home state was very important to me and very important to my family.”
