Without a resume that would warrant offers from his dream schools in the Big Ten Conference, Colson Wells gambled on his college tennis future. Last fall, the four-star recruit from Michigan declined his only firm offer from a non-Big Ten school, betting he could post results that would lead to a spot on a Big Ten roster.
That wager ultimately paid off handsomely, with Wells signing with Nebraska, although that outcome appeared to be a long shot after a distressing trip to Lincoln.

"I really wanted to go to a Big Ten school," said the 18-year-old from Okemos. "That's what I really had my heart set on. Because, being from the Midwest, everybody's crazy about the Big Ten, that's a big deal.
"But I wasn't good enough to go to a Big Ten school, into my senior year, late last year. I just wasn't good enough. I didn't have the results. There were a couple of schools that were interested, but they didn't want to make the move on me."
