Christopher Eubanks is Staying In Atlanta
Share:

Months before Signing Day and a year before his high school graduation, Christopher Eubanks had made his decision. Now, he's getting ready to follow through with the paperwork so he can play next year for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

Seventeen year old Eubanks won't be going far from his home in Atlanta to the Georgia Tech campus. That's a good thing since he's a huge fan of both Atlanta Hawks Basketball and Atlanta Falcons Football.

Just because he made an early decision, that doesn't mean Chris Eubanks took the experience lightly.

"The factors that I considered in my decision were the location, the room for growth in my game, and most importantly the education," he said.

Eubanks acknowledged that the roster itself had a lot to do with it.

"I honestly feel like Georgia Tech has the best coaching staff in the country. The entire Georgia Tech tennis team is like a family - men and women. So to simply be able to have the expertise of two top 100 ATP professionals at your disposal is absolutely wonderful. Both Kenny Thorne and [Georgia Tech women's head coach] Rodney Harmon - who was also the head of USTA Men's Tennis for years - know what it takes to be a successful tennis player. I can't wait to pick their brains to find out what I need to do to better my game and hopefully take it to the next level."

Between the coaching and the location, in the end, Chris Eubanks decided that he didn't need to look much further.

"I didn't take any visits to any other schools," he explained. "I'm an Atlanta kid at heart. I love everything about my home town. All of my favorite sports teams are Atlanta teams from the Hawks, to the Braves, to the Falcons. And to have the opportunity to play college tennis in the town I love in front of my family and friends was a choice that didn't require much thought. It was really a no-brainer."

The Westlake High School senior is ranked in the top 30 nationally on the Athletic DNA Class Rankings List. It's been a good summer as he began with wins at the One Love Tennis Junior Super Championship and the Georgia State Junior Closed Challenger. He then went on to make it to the finals of the Southern Closed.
