Strong Field Heads to Berkeley for the Girls' 18 Nationals
by
Alana Marcu, 1 August 2008
For the second consecutive year, The Berkeley Tennis Club invites 192 of the nation's best teenage tennis players to compete for the title of Girls' 18 National Hard Court Champion.
2008 marks the second straight year for the tournament in Berkeley after sixteen straight years at the Almaden Valley Athletic Club in San Jose. Co-director Andrea Norman says, "The tournament is in good hands at Berkeley."
Rich in tennis history and pride, the Berkeley Tennis Club offers an excellent venue and an enthusiastic audience for the girls to play their best this year and many more to follow. What it will lack in the future is Norman's partner, veteran co-director Jennifer Pitzen, who has declared that 2008 will be her final year organizing the tournament. A certified travel agent with a passion for exploring, Pitzen will continue taking new steps in her career.
