After appearing on the Tennis Recruiting Network’s Hot 100 list in February, Davis Phillips received a recruiting email from Dayton.
Phillips’ mom encouraged him to seriously consider the school, and Phillips scheduled an official visit for March 7. The trip coincided with ESPN’s College GameDay program being on campus to showcase the Flyers nationally-ranked men’s basketball team, featuring high-flying Obi Toppin.

"It was awesome. I really got to see how the school came together around basketball and I just really liked that,” Phillips said. “I got to watch a few tennis matches and the guys on the team were really good players and showed great sportsmanship on the court, which I really admired."
Phillips didn’t need to see much more from other programs. The four-star junior committed to Dayton shortly after returning home to Hilton Head, South Carolina.
"After I left Dayton, it really hit me how much fun it would be to go there,” he said. “I really enjoyed the time I spent there and I wanted to make sure the coach would have a spot for me. It's a really young team and there are a bunch of guys coming back."
