Anushree Shekhera was considering colleges on both coasts when she began her recruiting process. But the Campbell, California native realized just how much she loved her home state and didn’t want to leave.

Staying in California became a top priority for the four-star rising senior. Shekhera reached out to the coaches at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo last October and waited for a response.

Once she heard back, Shekhera updated them on the results of her tournaments. When Cal Poly played at Santa Clara, head coach Ellie Edles Williams came to watch Shekhera practice. A few weeks later, Shekhera received an offer and committed in June.

“I really love the coach and the team. They were super welcoming and nice when I went on my visit. It just felt like the right fit for me,” Shekhera said. “Cal Poly is only three hours away from where I live. It’s not too far and not too close. It’s the perfect distance for me.”
