The lifeblood of TennisRecruiting.net is its rankings. We release our College Recruiting Lists for the boys and girls every Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, while the TennisRPI rankings come out Thursdays and Fridays. Both of these head-to-head rankings use tournament results from the previous 12 months.
One of the most common questions our community has is which tournaments are used in our rankings. Because our rankings use head-to-head results, we cannot simply use all tournaments: players must be well-connected - with significant cross play - so we can compare players directly or indirectly.
So … which tournaments do we use? You can always take a look at our FAQ to answer these kinds of questions - but we recently updated our FAQ with a simplified explanation of tournaments that count towards TRN rankings:
Which tournaments will be used in the TennisRecruiting.net ranking calculations?
- All ITF junior tournaments.*
- USTA Level 1-6 tournaments.*
- Events in USTA Level 7 tournaments where 20% of the players in the event are National Players at the time of the tournament.
- All events in tournaments on the National Showcase Series.
- Events in UTR tournaments where a minimum of 50% of the players in the event are ranked on TRN at the time of the tournament.
We term a National Player as any player that has earned a singles win in a USTA Level 1-5 event in the 12 months preceding the tournament in question.
* For results to be entered into our database on TennisRecruiting.net, we require that the published Competitor List include the complete name of the player, the city, state or country of residence and an identifying player ID. Tournaments that do not list this information may be excluded from entry into our national ranking database.
