CORAL GABLES, Fla. - After a frustrating start to the 62nd Junior Orange Bowl International Championships, the prestigious tournament for 12s and 14s finished on time and under sunny skies at Salvadore Park and Biltmore Tennis Center last week. Andrew Johnson of the United States captured the boys 14s title, with Jana Kovackova of the Czech Republic taking the girls 14s championship. Daniel Baranes of Israel and Jang Junseo of Korea were crowned champions in the girls and boys 12s divisions respectively.

Four days of rain forced the final round of qualifying and the seven rounds of main draw into a five-day window, with doubles competition, offered this year for the first time, canceled before it began. A fourth site was opened for the boys 12s, with match tiebreakers and no-ad scoring implemented for the first two rounds. But when the skies finally cleared, regular scoring and full sets returned for the round of 32 through the final.
With cool temperatures and overcast skies, the two-a-day schedule was less physically draining than it could have been, yet celebrating a significant victory was often impossible when another match loomed in two hours.
