Not even heat stroke could keep Olivia Traynor from her first USTA ball — a gold one at that.
Traynor, from Scarsdale, New York, braved the steamy conditions in Huntsville, Alabama, to win the USTA National Girls 16 Clay Court singles title without losing a set.

"I've wanted a ball for forever; it's the biggest accomplishment for USTA," she said. "I'd be happy with anything."
Especially gold. Traynor showed why she was the No. 1 seed in the field of 192, winning all 14 sets she played. The last two came in the final when she took the last three games for a 6-3, 7-5 victory over ninth-seeded Lani Chang of Mission Viejo, California, at Athletic Club Alabama.
