Alyson Shannon (WTN: 19.6) got an inside look at college tennis several years before her own recruiting process began.
Her sister Kylee played for Texas State and her sister Summer is a junior who plays for University of Nebraska, Omaha.
“It really opened my eyes watching them, because I hadn't seen college matches before,” Shannon said. “There is such a different dynamic in college with the team and players who are cheering and the coaches on the court.”

Shannon knew she wanted to have the same experience at a high level of NCAA Division I tennis. The five-star junior from Plano, Texas found the right opportunity at the University of Tennessee and has committed to the Lady Vols.
Shannon’s coach at T Bar M Racquet Club, John Nallon, is friends with Tennessee head coach Alison Ojeda. Shannon first met Ojeda at her academy and they stayed in contact through the recruiting process.
“The Tennessee coaches are such great people. They put so much into their team, and they're very caring,” Shannon said. “They really made me feel at home when I visited, and the girls on the team were so welcoming. I didn't even know them, but they came up and gave me a hug. They're just so thoughtful, and make you feel like they're really happy that you're there.”
