Hard Court Championship Week

The second week of August is always the most important week of the year in U.S. junior tennis.

The best American juniors traveled from across the country to Arkansas, California, Georgia, Michigan, and Texas to compete for gold balls at the USTA National Championships. National titles were awarded for both boys and girls in all four age divisions.

This week, the Tennis Recruiting Network features special coverage of all these tournaments with a special article series called Championship Week. Every day we will feature articles that celebrate the best of the best in American junior tennis.

USTA Expands Althea Gibson Scholarship Program
In honor of the 75th anniversary of Althea Gibson breaking the color barrier in tennis, the USTA is expanding its Althea Gibson HBCU Scholarship Program, awarding an additional $20,000 in college scholarships to two students ($10,000 each) who are currently or will be enrolled in an HBCU.

American Junior Teams Qualify for ITF World Final Events
All four American teams advanced to this year’s finals of the Davis Cup Juniors and Billie Jean King Cup Juniors (16-and-under) and the ITF World Junior Tennis (14-and-under). The teams advanced through the qualifying rounds held last week in Montreal, Canada.
