For unseeded Mayu Crossley, who became the first girl from Japan to win the prestigious title, the past two weeks served notice to the junior circuit that the 16-year-old will be a force to be reckoned with in 2023.
Crossley, who won the Eddie Herr Grade 1 title a week earlier, upset No. 5 seed and pre-tournament favorite Clervie Ngounoue of the United States 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the final, preventing Merida, Mexico champion Ngounoue from claiming her second consecutive ITF Grade A title.
Crossley had beaten unseeded Anya Murthy of the United States 6-3, 6-0 in the semifinals, while Ngounoue, who did not play the Eddie Herr, had eliminated unseeded American Iva Jovic 6-3, 6-1 to reach the final.
