ITA Polo All-American Crowns Another Bulldog Champion

Georgia's Travis Helgeson may not have the height or the serve of his former teammate John Isner, but he now owns the same major college title: a singles championship at the Polo ITA All-American tournament.

Isner won the 2005 All-American singles title and reached the final last year; this year Helgeson, the fourth seed, delivered another national title to the legendary Bulldog program, when he defeated qualifier Robert Farah of the University of Southern California 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.

The 64-draw tournament is played over four days, with prequalifying and qualifying rounds adding another five days to the event, held for the third straight year at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Tulsa. Farah came through the three rounds of qualifying, so by the time he had reached the final, the sophomore from Cali, Columbia had played eight singles matches in six days, four of them three-setters. Included in those extended matches were victories over No. 9 seeds Treat Huey of Virginia and Greg Ouellette of Florida in Saturday's quarterfinals and semifinals.
