The most stressful part of the recruiting process for Asher Willenborg was deciding whether to stay closer to home and try to play at the NCAA Division I level or go to Florida and play for a Division II program.
In his heart, Willenborg knew what he really wanted.

The four-star senior from Fork, Maryland committed to Flagler College, a Division II school in St. Augustine, Florida.
“I thought it would be a better fit and opportunity for me,” Willenborg said. “I am pretty familiar with Florida. I have vacationed and trained down there and just love the school and the area. It’s a really historic town and the team got a new coach recently and he has been doing great.”
Jonas Piibor took over the Flagler program in August, 2021 after spending three seasons as the head coach at Gonzaga. Piibor led the Saints to the NCAA Division II national semifinals in 2022. Flagler won the Peach Belt Conference regular-season title for the first time and Piibor was named PBC Coach of the Year. The Saints ended the year ranked No. 4, the program’s highest final ranking in the Division II era.
Willenborg is the third-highest American recruit to commit to Flagler since Tennis Recruiting Network began its rankings. The Saints signed five-star David Cotrone in 2007 and five-star Jose Martinez in 2011.
