Commitment Announcement
Tayler Davis's Choice is Golden
by Marc Lucero, 24 September 2008
No matter the sport, college coaches know that their success is largely based on recruiting. You often hear coaches talk about their commitment to recruiting and having a strategy where they want to "build a fence" around their state with the idea of keeping the top players in their area local. Coach Amanda Augustus of the California Golden Bears has executed this strategy with Tayler Davis of San Jose, Calif. Today she announces her commitment to play for Cal.
Tayler Davis is a 5-Star athlete who attends San Jose's athletic powerhouse Archbishop Mitty High School. She has athletic genes as both of her parents were college athletes. Her father played football at San Jose State and her mother was a basketball player. She also has an uncle who is a basketball coach at the University of Kansas.
Tayler has blazed her own trail in tennis and has led the way for her younger sister, Kennedy, who is a 5-Star 8th grader.
Davis initially considered a wide range of schools before deciding on playing for the Bears.
"I was considering UNC, Georgia Tech, ASU, Kansas, Penn and Florida State", Davis said. "I took one unofficial visit to Kansas. I visited Cal twice."
