And Cecil, ranked No. 62 in girls 18s nationally, couldn't be more ecstatic and proud about the signing of her letter of intent next month.
"Coach (Chuck) Merzbacher gave me an offer at Clay Courts (in Memphis, Tenn.)," said Cecil, who lived in Wadsworth, Ohio, until she was 13. "I've always wanted to be a Buckeye. They have an amazing training program, and all the girls are really fit. Coach (Merzbacher) is an amazing coach. I love his personality, and I loved the whole team. The assistant coach (Sadhaf Pervez) is like a mom to the girls. They also have a beautiful indoor facility."
Cecil's greeting message on her cell phone includes a comment to prospective coaches, stating she has committed to Ohio State. She also thanked them for their interest, but she's going to Ohio State and the capital city of Columbus.
"Actually," Cecil told me during the interview, "it's The Ohio State University."
Cecil considered numerous schools, including Missouri, Brown and Yale. But The Ohio State won the prize.
