APRIL FOOLS: Football Joke
Share:

Editor's Note: The following article ran on April 1st as an April Fool's Day joke by the staff at TennisRecruiting.net. The joke involved a fake prank where football players supposedly changed the logos of the website. We thought that a lot of the text - "Chief of Logo Security"... references to places and people from the TV series Glee, etc. - would be a dead giveaway.

Unfortunately, our joke worked a little too well. We have received several emails and phone calls from people who thought the website was somehow hacked. This is not the case at all - it was only a light-hearted prank by those of us at TRN.

What follows is the text of the April 1 article... Enjoy!

The junior tennis community awoke today, April 1, 2011, to a sad state of affairs.

A community bemoans this defiled image
The logo and header on TennisRecruiting.net - the self-proclaimed premier website for junior tennis - had been defaced overnight by football hooligans. The well-known tennis ball logo - an affectionate image that many say has a charming handlebar mustache - had been hacked and replaced. Additional graffiti showed up elsewhere in the header.

"I just don't know why anyone would want to do this," said John Smith of Utica, N.Y., father of a 4-Star sophomore. "TRN stands for all that is good in life - the values that we hold near and dear in our hearts."

The vandalism is mean-spirited in nature, and the materials used seemed to be some sort of spray paint. The miscreants also displayed only a limited command of spelling and grammar.

"I mean, just look at him," said freshman and 1-Star recruit Jane Williams, of Lima, Ohio. "It's some sort of grotesque combination of Mr. Peanut from Planters... the Pringles Potato Chip man... and, I don't know, an out-of-shape Colonel Sanders. The horror!"

At its headquarters in Marietta, Ga., the TennisRecruiting.net team responded this morning, April 1, 2011, with swift and decisive measures.

"We want to reassure our users that the only part of our website impacted is the header logo - no player data has been compromised," stated a grim Dallas Oliver, Vice President of Business Development and recently-named Chief of Logo Security. "All hands are on deck to rectify the situation as soon as possible - and to restore the sanctity of our once-proud website."

Sadly, the chances of a speedy resolution are slim.

"There is a strong possibility that the hacked logo will remain on the TennisRecruiting.net website all day today, April 1, 2011," said Oliver.

Noone has stepped up to claim credit for the Internet prank to date.

At press time today, April 1, 2011, officials from the NFL, NCAA Football, the fifty high school football associations, and Dave Karofsky all declined to comment.
