NCAA Championships
NCAA Division III Quarterfinals Set to Begin at Biszantz
Share:

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps is hoping homecourt advantage will lead to a pair of national titles, while UChicago is hoping to double up on back-to-back crowns.

The Division III Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships will resume on Monday at the the Biszantz Family Tennis Center at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in Southern California. The men’s quarterfinals will begin Monday and the women’s quarterfinals will be Tuesday.

UChicago is the defending champion for both the men and women. The UChicago women, which have won 33 straight matches against Division III opponents, are ranked No. 1 and the UChicago men are ranked No. 4. The CMS men, which lost to UChicago in last year’s final, are ranked No. 1 and have won 30 straight matches.

The No. 14 Babson men have reached the quarterfinals for the first time in program history after upsetting No. 8 Bowdoin 4-3 in the Sweet 16. The victory snapped a 14-match losing streak against the Polar Bears dating back to 1997.

The No. 5 CMS women advanced to the quarterfinals for the 13th straight season, including 2018 when Biszantz last hosted the national championship and the Athenas won a national title at home.

CMS, UChicago, Emory, and Johns Hopkins will have both the men’s and women’s programs represented at the Elite Eight.

Men’s Notes

No. 2 Denison has won a program-record 17 straight matches. The Big Red reached the quarterfinals last season for the first time in program history.

No. 10 Johns Hopkins upset No. 7 Middlebury to reach the quarterfinals for the first time since 2021 and sixth time overall.

No. 3 Tufts is in the quarterfinals for the fourth straight season.

No. 6 Emory is in the quarterfinals for the 17th straight season.

No. 4 UChicago is making its fifth quarterfinal appearance in the last six seasons.

No. 5 Case Western is making its fifth straight quarterfinal appearance and sixth overall.

Women’s Notes

UChicago is making its eighth straight quarterfinal appearance and 13th overall. The Maroons won the ITA Indoor National Championships earlier this spring.

No. 2 Emory is in the quarterfinals for the 33rd straight season.

No. 9 WashU has advanced to the quarterfinals for the second straight season and seventh time overall.

No. 6 Wesleyan (CT) has reached the quarterfinals for the seventh straight season.

Bowdoin has reached the quarterfinals for the first time since 2017 and first time under head coach Ben Lamanna, who was named NESCAC Coach of the Year.
