The women's tennis program at Bowdoin College was instituted in 1973, and has flourished into one of the strongest programs in the nation. Over the past 7 seasons, Bowdoin has reached the NCAA Elite 8 three times. Plus they have finished in the top 10 NCAA End-Of-Season Rankings 4 times. Their highest ranking has been #6 the last two seasons.

Coaching Achievements
The Bowdoin College Athletic Department has announced the hiring of Ben Lamanna as head coach of the women's tennis program.
"Ben has been incredibly successful as both a men's and women's tennis head coach in Division III while investing equally in the overall student experience on campus," said Ashmead White Director of Athletics Tim Ryan. "I am excited to welcome Ben and his family to the Bowdoin community and look forward to his leadership of our Women's Tennis program in the years ahead."
"Bowdoin has an exceptional tradition of supporting their students and student-athletes," said Lamanna. "My family and I are thrilled to join the Bowdoin community. I'm motivated to build a championship future for Bowdoin Women's Tennis and I can't wait to get started."
Under Lamanna's direction, the Brandeis climbed in the national rankings over the last decade. As head coach of the women's program at Brandeis, he led the Judges to their first national ranking in program history in 2012 (#22) and have been nationally ranked each year since. Lamanna developed the first All-Americans in Brandeis women's tennis history and, in 2019, he helped the team to its highest-ever ranking, placing 10th in the final Division III poll on the strength of a run to the regional finals of the team's first-ever NCAA Tournament.
He guided the Brandeis men's team back into the national rankings for the first time in over 20 years in 2010, when he was named University Athletic Association Men's Tennis Coach of the Year. The team has finished with a national ranking six times since, with the best finish coming this past spring in 2018-19, when the Judges finished #8 in Division.
Lamanna was named the Wilson/ITA National Division III Coach of the Year in addition to his second UAA Coach of the Year honor and his first ITA Northeast Region Coach of the Year honor.
Lamanna is also a leader in the New England Division III tennis scene as aa 2012-2015 NCAA Selection Committee Member, the 2010-2012 Northeast ITA Rankings Chair and 2007-2010 New England Rankings Committee member. Lamanna has also served as a co-tournament director and treasurer for the NEWITT, the longest running Division III Women's tournament in college tennis.
As a player at Bates, Lamanna played in every spot from two through six in the singles ladder, compiling an impressive 15-1 record as a junior. The Bobcats made three NCAA tournament appearances in his career and, as a senior in 2002, Lamanna earned the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Clarence Chaffee Award for demonstrating leadership on and off the court.
Lamanna is a native of Barrington, R.I. He is a 1998 graduate of Barrington High School, where Lamanna's teams won four straight Rhode Island team championships, and was the Rhode Island State Doubles Champ in 1994.
