Notes
The table above lists all recruits as of May 19, 2024. In addition to the Star Rating, we display the highest TRN, UTR, WTN, and ITF junior rankings for each player since August 1, 2024, and for international players we display the TRN ranking they would hold if eligible.
Also Receiving Consideration
We reviewed the resumes for more than 50 teams for these rankings. Teams that received strong consideration and almost made our list are (alphabetically) as follows: Chattanooga, ETSU, George Washington, Johns Hopkins, Lipscomb, Mercer, Nevada, Sacramento State, Tarleton State, UAB
Cresting Waves
Year after year, Pepperdine University is a force to be reckoned with in women’s college tennis. This season, the Waves reached the Final Four of the NCAA Team Championships in Stillwater, and their team of Savannah Broadus and Janice Tjen reached the NCAA doubles finals. Pepperdine is also consistent - reaching the finals, Elite Eight, and Sweet 16 in 2021, 2022, and 2023, respectively.
And the future looks bright.
Next season, Head Coach Per Nilsson has a strong group of recruits arriving to Malibu, headlined by Blue Chip seniors Alexia Harmon (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Taylor Goetz (Greenlawn, N.Y.).
Harmon, consistently ranked as a Top 5 American recruit throughout high school, has competed in the French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open juniors. She has also won multiple ITF junior titles - with a career-high ranking in the Top 50 internationally. Goetz, a gold-ball winner, has won three ITF junior titles - and she rounds out the slams with an appearance at the Australian Open juniors.
This pair was strong enough to earn Pepperdine the No. 5 position last week in our overall recruiting class rankings - and today we name Pepperdine the No. 1 class across all mid-major conferences. We did not even consider Nilsson’s two recent international recruits - Liam Oved (Israel) and Duru Soke (Turkey). This quartet should help offset the loss of four strong players to graduation.
The Waves head coach is excited about the future.
“This incoming class feels special in many ways,” said Nilsson. “We are looking forward to developing these players and seeing how far they can go. Bright future for all of them - and can’t wait to get started this fall in Malibu.”
Give Me Five
Another recruiting class that received strong support from college coaches comes from Georgia Southern University. The Eagles are up-and-coming - earning ITA national rankings the past two seasons for the first time in school history, and posting a school-best No. 67 ranking in January. Head Coach Sean McCaffrey’s squad loses five players to graduation, but he has a 5-woman class coming into Statesboro this Fall.

International recruits Hannah Eifert (Germany), Franziska Heinemann (Germany), Listen Rinman (Sweden), Amelie Rosadoro (Spain) and Evelyn Warkentin (Germany) will all suit up for the Eagles this Fall. This quintet of players earned the No. 2 spot in our rankings - and we named the Eagles the No. 15 class overall last week.
Next up is the Tulane Green Wave in the No. 3 position. Tulane earns the nod with three strong recruits who all have UTRs above 9.5. Five-star recruits Campbell Ricci (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Summer Chandler (Rochdale Village, N.Y.), who both notched multiple singles wins at USTA National events, anchor a class that also features Natalia Fantini of Mexico.
The Florida Atlantic Owls and Boise State Broncos round out the Top 5 at No. 4 and 5, respectively.
Conference Call
The 25 recruiting classes on our list are scattered across 14 different conferences from all parts of the country. The American Athletic Conference and Mountain West Conference lead all comers with four ranked classes apiece.
Joining Top 5 programs Tulane (No. 3) and Florida Atlantic (4) in the rankings from the AAC are the Rice Owls (16) and Temple Owls (25). For those of you scoring at home, that’s three Owl mascots from a single conference with ranked recruiting classes - which has to be a first.
Fifth-ranked Boise State hails from the MWC, and they are accompanied by the Wyoming Cowgirls (11), San Diego State Aztecs (13), and Colorado State Rams (15).
The only other conference with more than two representatives in our rankings is the West Coast Conference with three ranked classes.
D-III Presence
Two schools come from outside NCAA Division I - and they are both Division III programs. The UChicago Maroons (No. 17) and Tufts Jumbos (24) both earned enough respect from college coaches to garner a spot on our list. The Maroons, fresh off their first-ever NCAA Team Title, look to reload in 2024-25. Both of these teams should get a great deal of attention next week when we publish our D-III recruiting class rankings.
Drop Shots
Scattershooting through the rankings:
- Sea to Shining Sea - These classes hail from 18 different states, and the Golden State leads the way. California has four teams in the rankings - all among the Top 15. Top-ranked Pepperdine is joined by the San Diego Toreros (No. 7), San Diego State (13), and UC Santa Barbara Gauchos (14). No other state has more than 2 teams in the rankings.
- New Look - The recruiting wealth is spreading. 18 of the programs in this year’s recruiting class rankings did not appear on our list in 2023.
- First Time - Three schools are in our recruiting class rankings for the first time in school history: the North Florida Ospreys (9), Arkansas State Red Wolves (19), and Washington State Cougars (22). Welcome aboard!
- Streaking - Two programs are making their fifth straight appearance in our mid-major rankings - the Boston University Terriers (6) and UCSB (14). These programs have appeared every year since 2020. The next-closest streak is four.
- Welcome Back - Temple (25) is making just its second appearance in the mid-major rankings. The Owls have their first ranked class since 2006 - an 18-year hiatus. Next up are Wyoming (11) and Tufts (24) who have been away for 17 years.
- Best Ever - In addition to our three newcomers who have never before appeared on our list, four programs are posting the best rankings in school history: Georgia Southern (2), Florida Atlantic (4), Boise State (5), and Wyoming (11). Congratulations!
- Again and Again - Pepperdine is no stranger to the top spot. The Waves have been ranked No. 1 on our mid-major list six different years - 2007, 2009, 2015, 2016, 2019, and now 2024.
- Familiar Faces - Boston University (6) is making its 15th appearance in our mid-major rankings - three more than any other program.
